We have a flexible booking system and offer a variety of appointment types.

Making an appointment

  • Register to use our online access service - This allows you to book and cancel appointments, order repeat prescriptions and see your test results. If you would like to use this service, please bring along a photographic ID to reception to collect your log in details.
  • Once registered you can book an appointment online. The easy to use online prompts allow you to view, book, or cancel appointments, day or night, and you will receive a confirmation immediately.
  • On the day urgent appointments - You may call us on 020 8885 3567 during opening hours or use our online service to book an urgent appointment on the same day.
  • In person - You may also visit the surgery to book routine appointments after 11 am.
  • If you need an interpreter - Please let us know as we will need to arrange for a telephone interpreter and book you a longer appointment. Alternatively, you can bring a friend or family member to act as an interpreter for you.

When booking an appointment, it is important to tell the receptionist what sort of treatment you need, so they can decide whether you need to see a doctor or a nurse.

It is sometimes possible to book a double appointment if you need to discuss more than one problem.

If you are more than 10 minutes late, you may not be seen and may be asked to re-book your appointment.

Cancelling an appointment

If you are unable to keep your appointment, please cancel your appointment here if made online, call us on 020 8885 3567 or reply CANCEL to the text message reminder you received for your appointment. Please cancel in good time so we can offer it to another patient.

Need to see a GP or nurse in the evening or at the weekend?

As we are part of a federation and work in partnership with other local practices, we are able to offer extended access appointments.

These are on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays 8 am to 8 pm and also evening appointments Monday to Friday 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm at local surgeries. Our nearest one is Somerset Gardens Family Health Centre at 4 Creighton Road, London N17 8NW and Bounds Green Group Practice at Gordon Road, Southgate, London N11 2PF.

Telephone consultations

To book telephone consultations with either a doctor or a nurse, please call us on 020 8885 3567. This is a quicker way of dealing with some problems and useful for general advice and medication queries. However, you will be asked to leave your telephone number and a clinician will get back to you at a mutually convenient time.

Urgent advice & appointments

If you need urgent advice during our opening hours, please leave a message with the receptionist, and a doctor will contact you within 2 hours. If you need to be seen the same day, please call us and a doctor will get back to you within 2 hours and decide if you need to be seen the same day.

When we are closed

This is the NHS non-emergency number if you need assistance at the weekend and weekdays from 18.30 hrs to 08.00 hrs. You may receive telephone advice, be invited to a local walk in centre, or a doctor might visit you at home depending on the circumstances.

This service is not for routine problems that can wait until the surgery opens again.

Home visits

Home visits are only made for those patients who are housebound, too frail or too ill to come to the surgery. Please call us before 10 am and give us as much information as possible, to help us decide how urgently a visit is needed.

Home visits are not ideal, as it is better to treat someone in our well equipped surgery, and a visit takes significantly longer than a surgery consultation.

If you live outside our catchment area and registered as an 'out of area registration', you will not be able to have a home visit from our doctors. If your clinical care is then thought to be better delivered closer to your home, your usual doctor may recommend that you register with a surgery in your catchment area.

E-referral service

For referrals, we can write to specific consultants in hospitals, and appointments then sent to you. Appointments can also be made during the consultation by using the online referral system called the "e-referral service". Appointments can only be made in certain clinics, so referrals to specific consultants are not usually possible. However, you will be given the option to choose where you have your treatment will be made available to you.

You can often leave the surgery with a clinic appointment, or collect the paperwork at reception to make your own booking, either by telephone or online. The paperwork should contain an ID number (or UBRN), along with a randomly generated password. By contacting the e-referral service, you can then book and manage your appointment at your convenience.

You can track where your referral has got to by calling the hospital directly. Our standard procedure is to email referrals and we do not chase up appointments as a matter of course. Please see the hospital appointment lines below;

Been off work?

Sickness certificates

You do not require a doctor's certificate for any illness lasting less than seven days. Your employer may, however, require you to complete a self-certification form (SC2) which is also available from your employer or please ask at reception.

Evidence that you are sick

If you are sick for more than seven days, your employer can ask you to give them some form of medical evidence to support payment of SSP (statutory sick pay).

A medical certificate, now called a 'Statement of Fitness for Work’ (see below) from your doctor is strong evidence that you are sick and would normally be accepted, unless there is evidence to prove otherwise.

You could also provide evidence from someone who is not a medical practitioner, e.g. a dentist. Your employer will decide whether or not this evidence is acceptable. If your employer has any doubts, they may still ask for a medical certificate from your GP.

Statement of Fitness for Work - ’Fit Note'

The 'fit note' and sometimes called a 'sick note' was introduced on 6 April 2010. With your employer's support, the note will help you return to work sooner by providing more information about the effects of your illness or injury. Fit notes allow for altered working hours, amended duties or workplace adaptations to facilitate your return to work.
